As I sit here in Bangkok thinking back to what the past year has brought to me and thinking about what might be in store for my future, I cant help but shead one too many tears. What I have seen and done this past year I will carry forever with me through life not only as a past memory but as a great learning experience. I am ready for whatever it is tomorrow may bring and I will meet it with open arms. If I have learned anything this past year it is that life is what you make of it. You may have nothing or you may have everything but somewhere in between all that you make a choice to live whatever it may be that life has handed you. When life gives you lemons make lemonade.

As for my family I want to thank you for the support and love you gave me through my entire journey without them this chance to see the world would not have been possible and I will remember that always and forever.

As I have said before, "Tomorrow is a mystery. The only thing we can do is face it with resolve. We move forward, always forward and into what's next. We make a choice. We act on that choice. And all that's left is to live and hope"

I have met so many amazing people along the way and I wish the very best for everyone. As for Kells, yesterday brought the beginning, tomorrow brings the end but somewhere in the middle we've become the best of friends. As your folks always say a true friend for life!!

I know this is sounding like a final signoff, and internationally speaking it is but stay tuned for one last update with the final pictures from thailand. (as soon as i get home and can afford to use the internet haha)

This blog will be short and sweet I promise with loads of pictures. My experience on this island began very low key spending countless days lounging on the beach and by the swimming pool, while going to eat great cheap local food and drinks. After of bit of persuasion from Kelly I signed up for a Open Water Scuba Diver course and yes as everyone could have predicted I'm hooked. I cant wait to do another as soon as possible which will hopefully be tomorrow. The underwater life is facinating being full of color and life and has made me itching to get back down there and see more!! As for the pictures I threw a few in from New Zealand and the rest are from Thailand. Hope you Enjoy!!

Arrived in Koh Phangan with tons of ideas on what the island life would be like and might i add my experience has been nothing short of great. Koh Phangan is famous for its full moon parties that attract people from all over the world, with its beach front row of bars serving sand buckets full of cocktails, its flame throwers and large range of music from all genres its definitely the party thats goes strong through the night. During the days the streets are lined with little local shops and restaurants blaring all sorts of english movies and tv shows. It was a nice retreat from the sun but it definitely killed the vibe.

After enough of the all night beach parties and jam packed backpacker restaurants and bars, we jumped on a ferry and headed south to Koh Samui. Landing in Big Buddah Beach we hopped in the back of a pick up truck(aka what they call a taxi) and headed south to a town called Hat Chaweng. Spending two nights there we decided its was too developed and commercialized (if thats possible in thailand) for our taste and headed south to where I sit today, Hat Lamai. We just checked in to a little triangle shaped hut right on the beach front. Consisting of only mattresses, a mosquito net, and fan its true roughing it paradise and all for only 250 baht a night (US $ 5/night and thats for two people). So yeah its a real bang for your baht!!

I just cant help but wake up to a beautiful secluded beach and not wonder why everyone doesnt live somewhere like this. Its the text book definition of a getaway. But with every secluded beach there is a tourist destitionation lurking about, a twenty minute walk down the street you can satisfy your fast food craving at the local mcdonalds. Keep posted because Ill be adding pictures as soon as July comes around. Miss everyone tons and cya all soon!!

Thailand is a fanstactic country and although I know i have only been here two days I can say with great enthusiam that if you havent been you should because it is a fascinating place. Khoa San Rd has exceeded my expectations and the movies dont give this place enough credit. This morning I booked a bus and boat to Ko Phangan which is home to the famous full moon party, which I will be attending on June 29th. This country makes all my hard work in the packhouse worth it, its amazing how far a dollar will go in this country. Twenty-five dollars got me a thai massage(which i am now addicted to), pedicure(which was way overdue thanks to all my farmwork), bathingsuit, pants, earrings, and breakfast!! Hope you all enjoy and I am getting some fantastic photos which I will post as soon as I can. Miss you all!!!

Hard at Work!!

After leaving KeriKeri we headed north up to Cape Reinga. On the west coast of the cape is the Ninety mile Beach which we wanted to adventure on with Baby(thats our campervan) but between the rising tides, quicksand, wildhorses, and the fact that Baby doesnt have four wheel drive we decided against it. Further north we made it all the way to the "end of the world", which is home of the AA sign, the cape reinga lighthouse, and the famous pohutukawa tree that marks "land's end" at the northern most tip of New Zealand. Cape Reinga is located at the meeting place of two oceans - the Pacific Ocean and the Tasman Sea. As you look out you can see the turbulent waters at the exact point the two oceans meet.

It is believed that after death, Maori spirits travel up Ninety Mile Beach to Cape Reinga. Using seaweed as ropes, they travel down the hill to the pohutukawa tree, believed to be over 800 years old, at the northernmost tip of the Cape. The spirits make their final leap from the tree, down the roots, and then return to Hawaiiki, the ancestral homeland of Maori.

Where to next??

After leaving the Cape we heading a few kilometers south to the Te Paki sand dunes. This place definitely gives you a feel of desert life because it was one massive sand dune after another. However for just being a large pile of sand they created some great memories and some even better laughs.

After hanging in Auckland for a few days after Kelly arrived we took off for the Bay of Islands (which is located in the northern part of the northern island haha) in search of some work. We found ourselves a pretty steady fruit packing shed job and a nice home right next to a river. Be sure to check your local supermarkets for Kiwis the next time your there, if they have a Zespri label then there is a pretty good chance it was packed where I work.
Quick Fact: New Zealand controls 28% of world trade in kiwifruit through Zespri, but is the second largest production country, after Italy.

I'll be sure to get some great pics of me in my work attire (which is an apron and hair net haha). If any of you can remember that I love Lucy episode where she works the assembly line and it goes rapid speed on her, well thats how i feel alllll day long. I get up before its light and return home after dark thanks to 12 hours shifts haha. OK well wish me luck for the next few weeks and I'll be sure to update as soon as something exciting happens. After a fabulous dinner on the harbour with my sis exchanging stories of our travels and catching up for all the time spent apart. We headed off on friday in search of some surf. We spent the first night at this place called goat island which is famous for its reef and marine life, more well known for the diving cultlure rather than the surf culture. Saturday morning we headed north again to a small town called Waipu Cove. And yes we stumbled upon some warm sunny weather and some good swell to go along with it. Surfed all day separating the two sessions with a small break for lunch. Spent the night in the small town getting accustomed to my new mobile home, campervan #3 of my journey. Just arrived back into Auckland which I have decided is rated in my top three cities in the world. Everything over here is just so green and the plants are so full of life. A mild comparison to my time spent in the Outback of Australia where brown seems to be natures color of choice. Here are a few pics from the weekend with many more on the way. Hope you all enjoy!!

Here I am back in Sydney again but this time is different from all the rest because tomorrow I depart from the land down under never to return again. As i sit here in front of my computer browsing through my thousand and some pictures my eyes began to fill up a bit. I look back at the past six months and try to remember all those little details that I say I'll never forget but at the end of the day its still one big blur. I will be sad to leave OZ tomorrow but I must remember that the time spent here has been some of the most amazing times of my life. Tomorrow however is more than just an arrival to New Zealand but I get to see my dear sister. It has been way too long and my heart fills with joy to think that in less than 24 hrs I will be sitting at dinner with one of my favorite people in the world. Miss you all!!

We made stops at pretty much every town along the way some worth the while and some not. There were definitely a few along the way that I believe should not even be considered real towns consisiting of a few houses(one of which was the town cafe), a farm, and a view lookout point. There isnt much to say about the two weeks that the pictures wont show you but I'll attempt anyways. Our first stop was Tourquay which is home to the famous Bells Beach (for those of you that Bells Beach doesnt ring a bell, try and remember the final scene in the movie Point Break). The first day we rented boards and my three students tried their luck at surfing. overall is was a successful experience, if you count out Kelly rolling her ankle in knee deep water, Christoph catching a man cold, and Per thinking he has become Kelly Slater(World's Greates Surfer) after one hour. AFter Tourquay we headed further west to a few different small towns. In Apollo Bay we parted ways with the boys as they began the Great Ocean Walk. This walk is a 91k walk that is recommended to be done in 8 Days with a tour guide. Our boys decided to attempt this great ocean walk in three days. Well...three days later and one night in a hostel we met back up them just about 20 kilometers short of the finish. After that we followed the basic tourist route and visited the 12 Apostles, London Bridge, Loch Ard Gorge. We even made our way to a folk music festival in a small town called Port Fairy. The next plan is to bum around Melbourne (if we can find accomodation) for a few days because Formula 1 comes to town. After that its back to sydney for another go around before heading off to New Zealand. Keep in touch all....miss everyone loadssss!!!!

Ok so after a long hard month of slave labor it is finally time to set off and let the adventures begin. In two days Kelly and I are leaving this dreadful little town of griffith and making our way back to civilization in the direction of melbourne.

Although this experience has been both mentally and physically tiring, I must say its been a real eye opener. It one of those things that seems so awful when its actually happening but looking back it gives me a good laugh. Slave labor really makes you appreciate every dollar earned. There is not much besides work and sleep in griffith but I must say I met some great people who I will never forget and will always be part of this bitter sweet experience.

I will update this page with some pictures of the housemates and some of my hair catastrophe. The mishap left me orange and my fix up has left me borderline brown and jet black (i still do a double take in the mirror everytime). Oh well as tom once said 'cie la vie'.

P.S. Happy Valentine's Day (even though I have never been a big fan of this hallmark money maker holiday)

After spending our last dollars on a train ticket to this remote little town of pretty much nothing, we found ourselves falling on a pot of gold. A strange man we met at the bus stop is now our boss, his name is Cesar, and for some reason he really likes kelly and I so he basically runs his business around us two. He is even going to employ me as an illegal immigrant after my working visa expires at the beginning of february.

the new "Muff"...sorry boys you've been replaced, that what you get for selling the old girl.

As I have always been told a little hard work never killed anyone and for the first time ever I am beginning to realize this is true. As for everyone at home, I miss you all and will see you all soon enough.

New Years 2007!! tag:travellerspoint.com,2007-01-04:/blog/?domain=brittany7&thisblog_entryid=5&entryid=37506 2007-01-15T03:01:37Z 2007-01-04T10:30:49Z To start I want to wish everyone a very happppppy new years. To start I want to wish everyone a very happppppy new years. After a low key christmas with some great friends, the crew and I headed off to the heart of sydney for the new year. This new years was hands down the best one of my life. It began at 9 am as the boys headed into town to reserve a front row spot on the lawn with the darling harbour bridge and sydney opera house in perfect view. Downtown sydney was absolute madness as 1.2 million projected people flooded the city. Sydney is known as the second largest new years celebration behind rio de janero and the second major city in the world to celebrate the new year behind Aukland, NZ (thanks for that tid bit Nick). After a long day of chilling on the lawn with a perfect view of the harbour kelly, brock, nick, tom and I watched the first set of fireworks take over the sky and light up the night.

New Years 2007!!!!!

Afterwards Nick and I headed deeper into the crowds of people searching for excitement. I will tell you this I have never experienced anything quiet like this. Being that i am a small town gal and not much of a fan of big cities, to see so many people from everywhere around the world on such similar terms living life and celebrating the new year really makes you realize how lucky we are all to be alive and bring in a brand new year!!! There is no way to explain the energy that was being passed through the streets of sydney that day so I wont even try to put it into words. After Nick and I spent about half an hour crawling through bushes and dark alley ways we made our way up to the best seat in the house. I climbed my way up a fence and watched the best fireworks display ever from a birds eye view of the crowd. Fireworks surrounding the 10,000 people on the street and I from all directions, from on top of the harbour bridge to behind the opera house to even the sykscrapers the fell behind us. Later that night Kelly, Nick and I wandered the streets of sydney full of energy and new years love. We sang along with a street performer and danced in a shopping center, things that will forever and always be held in my memories as New Years 2007!! I will say though that I am very lucky for all the people i have met along my travels thus far and without them I dont think I would have made it through the holidays. I miss everyone at home so much and wish you could have all be here experiencing all this. Tomorrow morning at 6 am I board a train with not much guaranteed but a hope to get some harvest work once again, in a small town called Griffith. Its going to be a rough few weeks considering I am scrapping the bottom of the barrel right now and still have so much I want to do in the future. So in other words wish me luck in all my endeavors and hope that I find some work. For all those who may worry DONT because it wouldnt be worth it if there wasnt alittle struggle along the way. I wish the best of luck for everyone in the year to come and hope that you keep with all your new years resolutions.

The weather is out of control hot and yes I am as tan as someone my color can get(but thats not me bragging or anything). Up in Cairns Kelly and I had quite a few adventures. We attempted to get to a small rainforest town but the hill on the way up was just too much for Muff(thats the name of the Van that I have been living out of for almost a month now). So after sitting on the side of the highway looking like fools for about two hours we decided to take the easy way and head back down the hill saving our day trip to Kuranda for another day. In Cairns I also went out on a day trip to the Great Barrier Reef where my intial intention was to sunbath and maybe go for a snorkel while Kelly did some scuba dives. However I was coaxed into doing an introductory scuba dive. It was amazing, it was a completely different ocean experience than anything else I have ever done.

Currently I am writing to you from Byron Bay which is our final stop along our 3000 Kilometer drive down the east coast in hopes of making it to Sydney for Christmas. We made it pretty far in the first two days of driving but it wasnt pretty. Hope all is well on the home front. Happy Holidays to All!!!

This was our First Mate on our Sailing Trip to Whitsundays.

Today is the 1st of december and basically up until this point I have been having the most amazing time of my life.. It all began in Sydney and that lasted about two days before Lex and I made the treck up to Byron Bay, this is where the jet lag finally wore off and the real party began. Thanks to Lexie's antics on stage at Cheeky Monkeys bar we meet some cool lads who we began our northward route up the east coast with. We made stops in Surfers Paradise (during Indy Weekend), Noosa Heads, Redcliffe(where i swear we almost died), Rainbow Beach(which if your not doing fraser island DONT GO), hervey bay, and finally up to my current point of Airlie Beach.

DSC04481.JPG
The Wildlife is absolutely amazing in Australia, this is just one of the baby kangaroos we got to feed bottles to.

I have been trying the whole work thing but I am having too much fun to be pinned down in one place..so I do anything from a day of work at one job to a maximun of two weeks before I move on to my next adventure. So far I have experienced housekeeping work(which i decided i was too educated for, thanks mom), working on sailboats(which I loved but it wasnt enough funds for all my future plans), and tomato picking(which is hard work but quick cash and I guess it didnt help that Kelly and I stopped showing up after about a week and a half haha).
DSC04526.JPG
This is where Kelly and I ended up while the others were slaving away in the Tomato fields hehe

Airlie Beach Waterfront

If you asked me what I would be doing after a graduate a few years ago I probably would have answered with working on Wall Street but now i realized thats a boring answer anyways. But I will say I bet no one guessed i be picking tomatoes on a farm out in the fields wearing a straw hat. Now that farm work is over we have found ourselves back in Airlie beach for another go around. I think that gives everyone the basic go around for my trip so far. Wish I could add all my stories but then Id probably be banned from the site all together so I will keep it G-rated for all those out there underage or overage!!

P.S. Happy Belated Thanksgiving!!! Miss everyone so much.
